Angkor Botanical Garden, Siem Reap 2023 You Need To Visit

The New Renovation Place To Visit That You Should Not Miss In Siem Reap

Cambodia officially inaugurates the Angkor Botanical Garden in Siem Reap on May 19. Visitors can visit the garden for a month free of charge. The garden has more than 500 species of plants and animals.

In front of SOS Primary School in Siem Reap, on the way to Angkor Wat Temple, you can find the Angkor Botanical Garden. From Tuesday through Sunday, 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, it is now accessible to the general public. The Angkor Botanical Garden is distinct from most other gardens. The 15-hectare facility is incredibly instructive and peaceful, including gardens for attractive and flowering plants, palm trees, Khmer inspirational plants, and Angkor wild plants.

The Siem Reap River would serve as the source of an irrigation system that the APSARA Authority will install in order to enlarge the park. The authorities introduced numerous animal species in 2018, including turtles, peacocks, pigeons, and rabbits.

New entertainment and sightseeing opportunities are appealing to tourists, and the province is seeing an increase in visitors thanks to the new garden.

Additionally, the Angkor Botanical Garden will support sustainable tourism growth and preserve the Angkor archaeological site.

The garden was designed in five sections

1. A garden of herbs and spices makes up the first area. By doing this, unique plants are collected for use in traditional Cambodian medicine and cookery.

2. Variety of sunflowers, ornamental grasses, veils, cauliflower, and other plants. The time of year determines how these blooms are grown.

3. A palm garden is a hillside assemblage of palm trees, several varieties of coconuts, and wide varieties of snails.

4. The Khmer garden, combines locally grown fruit trees like mangosteens with imported fruit trees like Kao Lak.

5. The animal and woodland preserve of Angkor. The park was once part of the forest near Angkor but has been changed by adding a boardwalk and a waterfall. Visitors can stroll around the woodland and view the wildlife.

A garden needs to be set up to a high quality, and planting and caring for it also takes talent, love, and patience.

Both the general public and specialists have praised the garden's opening as an important step toward conserving endangered plant species. The botanical garden was originally intended to display the links between plants in various plant groups and was a collection of all living plants. Today, the garden is primarily used to display decorative plants, and the exhibition is set up so that the plants interact naturally.

The botanical garden's major objective is to maintain its collection of plants by displaying their common and scientific names as well as their places of origin. The garden is divided into specialized areas, such as those for fruit, medicinal plants, and uncommon plant species that are located all across the nation.

The Angkor Botanical Garden is the only botanical garden in Cambodia; all other locations are utilized only to store wild plant species. It's excellent because guests can discover the various plant species present in and outside of Cambodia. It can also serve as a resource for consumers to discover and comprehend the sources of natural therapies. People can visit the garden to learn about and see several natural plants that are hardly recognized by them. Additionally, they can discover more about the overall traits of the plants.

Unusual plant species functions

Due to so much agricultural land has been taken over and destroyed, the botanical garden is crucial in helping to preserve uncommon tree species. A regular occurrence in Cambodia is the loss of distinctive trees, which is a result of the illegal wood trade. It is regrettable if the unique plant species are in danger of extinction because it is crucial for researchers and scientists to make key discoveries.

In Cambodia, there has been an effort to protect and preserve rare plant species, albeit it seems to be concentrated on trees that are thought to be at risk of extinction. Rare species that live far inside the forest appear to go unnoticed.
